The World Poker Tour (WPT) is doubling down on its recent success in the online arena with two new championship events.

Buoyed by its inaugural WPT Online Series, the WPT is guaranteeing more than $100 million in prize money for players at all levels.

For those in New Jersey, the WPT Online Poker Open will take place on June 28. Outside of the US, Partypoker’s international network will host the World Online Championship between July 17 and September 8.

Partypoker to Host WPT Online Championships

To make the $400 Online Poker Open possible, the WPT has extended its partnership with Partypoker. As an active operator in New Jersey, Partypoker has the ability to offer real money games within the Garden State.

The WPT will use this to host its $300,000 guaranteed event across three sites on the Partypoker US network:

BorgataPoker.com

NJ.partypoker.com

BetMGMPoker.com

The tournament will only be open to those located in New Jersey. However, international players aren’t being left out in the cold, as they’ll have their own series to focus on.

At the same time GGPoker is hosting the WSOP’s online bracelet series, the World Online Championship will take place on Partypoker. Buy-ins will start at $33 but scale up to $10,300 for the $10 million guaranteed main event.

As well as Hold’em, organizers have confirmed that MTTs will take place across a full range of variants, including Omaha, Stud, and Draw. The overall guarantee will be $100 million, which puts the series in direct competition with the WSOP.

WSOP vs. WPT Opens Up New Value

GGPoker, Partypoker, the WPT, and WSOP have emerged as online poker’s top dogs since lockdown started. Although PokerStars guaranteed $135 million for its 2020 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), it’s closest competitors have been more active on the innovation front.

With GGPoker and the WSOP on one side and Partypoker and WPT on the other, the two-way battle has opened up new opportunities for players. On top of the chance to win WSOP and WPT titles, the new wave of coronavirus-induced MTTs has sent guarantees soaring.

In May alone, the WSOP, WPT and SCOOP gave away more than $300 million in prize money. With the summer months set to give away even more, it’s a time of plenty. Even though the lack of live action is frustrating, there’s a silver lining.

The WPT’s latest online offerings will give players at all levels something to get excited about. As well as MTTs pitched at three levels (micro, mini and main), there will be satellites available on Partypoker.

All in all, it’s a positive time for everyone involved in online poker right now, despite the lack of live action.
