PokerStars is gearing up for a mammoth few weeks of MTT action that will include a special Sunday Million and the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP).

First up in PokerStars’ season of added value is the 15th Anniversary Sunday Million.

Set to take place on March 21 and run for three days, the $215 celebratory tournament will feature a $12.5 million guarantee.

PokerStars Ups the Ante

That’s up on the $1 million PokerStars usually guarantees for the Sunday Million. In fact, to mark the weekly MTTs 15th birthday, at least two players will win $1 million each.

More than 6,700 players are already registered but PokerStars executives will want more.

Last year’s anniversary Sunday Million attracted 93,016 entries. That pushed the prizepool to a record-breaking $18.6 million.

Satellites are available from $2.20 and, to generate maximum interest, PokerStars is offering 192 qualifiers each day.

Even without breaking last year’s record, the 15th Anniversary Sunday Million will become the second largest of all time. The biggest prizepool prior to 2020 was set by 2019’s anniversary event at $12.2 million.

Spring into SCOOP 2021

PokerStars will parlay interest in the Sunday Million into its instalment of SCOOP.

It will be the 13th edition of the spring tournament series and, while we don’t yet know what the guarantee will be, the official press release say it will be “big.”

SCOOP 2020 was the biggest to-date with a $135 million guarantee. That prizepool was offered, in part, because COVID-19 restrictions put people around the world on lockdown.

Parts of the world are now slowly returning to normal, which may affect the number of players anteing up this year.

However, with SCOOP 2021 set to run from April 4 to April 28, it’s unlikely many places in Europe will be restriction-free. Therefore, if the current buzz surrounding online MTTs remains, we could see another record broken.

Records aside, players have the opportunity to compete for an almost unprecedented amount of value at PokerStars over the next six weeks.

It all starts with the Sunday Million and, as spring starts to fill the air, it will end with what could be the largest SCOOP in history.
