With its previous incarnation of Venom proving popular, the US-facing site has announced its next mega-MTT.

The fifth instalment of “The Venom” will take place in July and, this time, it will have a $10 million guarantee.

That’s $2 million more than January’s Venom and another chance for Americas Cardroom to host the biggest online tournament in the US.

Venom Continues to Show Its Bite

The first biennial Venom took place in 2019. It was a foray into the world of high stakes MTTs for Americas Cardroom as the tournament brought with it a $2,650 buy-in.

As expected, there were a slew of satellites and that helped it surpass its $5 million guarantee.

The event has continued growing ever since and, this time around, players can freeroll their way into the mix.

Of course, direct buy-ins for $2,650 are still possible. However, in an effort to hit and, potentially, surpass the $10 million guarantee, there will be hundreds of low-cost qualifiers.

For those eyeing up what could become the biggest online tournament by a US-facing poker site, there will be four starting flights.

Players can take part in all four if they wish. And, anyone that makes it through multiple starting flights will carry their biggest stack into Day 2.

Venom V Schedule

  • Day 1A – July 23 at 1pm ET
  • Day 1B – July 25 at 1pm ET
  • Day 1C – July 30 at 1pm ET
  • Day 1D – August 1 at 1pm ET
  • Day 2 – August 2 at 1pm ET (approximately 11 hours of play)
  • Day 3 – August 3 at 1pm ET (plays down to a final table of eight)
  • Day 4 – August 1 at 5pm ET (Final Table)

Americas Cardroom Strikes at the Right Time

The timing of Americas Cardroom’s announcement couldn’t be better. CEO Phil Nagy found himself in hot water in mid-June when he made some unsavory comments during a live stream.

Many viewers called him out what they saw as sexist and misogynist behavior. He quickly apologized before taking a step back from the situation.

Nagy then doubled down on his apology and vowed to learn from the incident. The sentiment was seemingly sincere and various critics welcomed his follow-up comments.

However, the incident did cast a temporary shadow over Americas Cardroom. Venom may not cancel out what Nagy said but it does give players something else to focus on.

Beyond any controversy surrounding Nagy, the announcement of Venom V is a positive for the poker community.

A $10 million guarantee is significant, particularly for players in the US. With that being the case, the latest instalment of the flagship MTT is likely to have a significant bite.
