PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) has come to a glittering end with three main event winners picking up a combined $1.8 million.

The final MTTs of this year’s series concluded on September 23 and Andre Marques topped the list of winners.

His victory in the $5,200 WCOOP main event netted him almost $1.2 million. However, with mammoth fields in the $530 and $55 versions of the main event, 1mSoWeeeaK and Klimono also picked up substantial paydays.

Marques Makes His Mark

Marques’ run for the title started with the elimination of Cecilia Cafaro. The short-stacked Cafaro made her final move with A♥K♦ and thought she’d found the perfect spot to double up when Marques called with A♦3♠.

Unfortunately for Cafaro, the 2♣5♦10♠4♦8♠ board gave Marques a straight. That hand was enough to eliminate Cafaro and catapult Marques into a commanding position.

With a healthy stack of chips in hand, Marques sat back and watched as 2013 WPT London champion Robin Ylitalo played executioner. Between his moves and those of Tonio Röder, the field was cut from eight to four in just over an hour.

A deal could have been struck at this point, but numbers weren’t quite right for all involved. However, after Ylitalo dropped out in fourth, the numbers did add up. Each of the final three locked up at least $1 million, which meant there was $100,000 and a WCOOP title left to play for.

At this point it was all one-way traffic. Marques dispatched with Teun Mulder before a straight on the river against Röder’s trip sixes secured the Portuguese pro his biggest payday to-date.

Marques may have stolen the show in terms of total prize money but 1mSoWeeeaK and Klimono walked away with their heads held high. The former emerged victorious in the $530 WCOOP main event, while the latter turned $55 into $186,841.

Glittering End to WCOOP 2020

Thailand’s 1mSoWeeeaK had to come through 7,104 players to secure victory in the “medium” main event. In the end, a fortunate flop helped him beat Y.Zakharov.

With all the money in the middle, Y.Zakharov was ahead with A♦9♠. However, as the board ran out 8♠3♦K♣2♥2♠, 1mSoWeeeaK scooped the pot and a WCOOP title with 9♣8♣.

Rounding out the main event winners was Poland’s Klimono. Despite having to overcome more than 38,600 players, the final two didn’t cut a deal. Instead, Klimono and Tangawi26 were content to play for all the marbles.

That proved to be a wise move for Klimono as a final push with A♥8♥ was enough to scoop the pot, $186,841, and a prestigious WCOOP title.
