The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) has a new home and it is at King’s Casino Rozvadov.

Unlike the WSOP which has been held in Las Vegas since its inception, the WSOPE has been much more of a travelling product. The inaugural event saw London’s Empire Casino play host to some of the world’s top talent back in 2007.

Initially seen as something of a trial, the first ever WSOPE was a success and the following year it returned to London with an expanded schedule.

By 2011 the WSOPE’s organizers decided that the event needed to reflect the growing popularity of poker across Europe and move around the continent accordingly.

Under this new strategy, the Majestic Barrière and the Le Croisette Casino Barrière in Cannes were used as host venues between 2011 and 2012.

In 2013, the festival moved to another French casino, Casino Barrière in Enghien-les-Bains, before a hiatus in 2014 set the stage for a move to Berlin, Germany, in 2015.

WSOPE Wheels in Motion

In keeping with this mobile ethos, the WSOPE directors have now agreed to host their 2017 event in the Czech Republic. Announced in a press release on October 25, the forthcoming festival will take place in the fall and feature a minimum of ten bracelet tournaments.

In addition to hosting the 2017 WSOPE, King’s will also welcome WSOP Circuit players as well as another cohort of WSOPE hopefuls in 2019. Of course, this won’t be the first time the venue has been the site for a WSOP tournament.

Back in 2015 the WSOP Circuit tour stopped at King’s and since that time the owner, Leon Tsoukernik, has been busy liaising with the WSOP’s Executive Director, Ty Stewart.

“The existing set up already reminds me of the Amazon Room at the Rio and it’s only going to get bigger. With King’s backing large guarantees and media coverage, we believe we have found a long term home for WSOPE to replicate the scale we enjoy in Las Vegas,” explained Stewart.

King’s the Home of High Stakes

For many of the game’s top players, King’s has become something of a second home in recent years. As well as offering more than 150 poker tables, the poker room has hosted numerous high stakes cash games.

Often televised or streamed online, the games have been known to feature blinds as high as $550/$1,100.

With players such as Igor Kurganov, Daniel Cates and Philipp Gruissem all impressed by the casino’s set-up, it’s likely many of the game’s leading players will be prepared to ante-up there in 2017. Indeed, if the race for bracelets doesn’t capture the attention of the masses, then there’s a good chance we’ll have plenty of side game action to feast on next year.
