No Sun but Partypoker Caribbean Poker Party Gets Underway Online

The Partypoker Caribbean Poker Party might not be taking place in The Bahamas this year but, much like other live events, there’s an online alternative.

With two WPT online events proving popular earlier this year, Partypoker has given its digital Caribbean series a $10 million guarantee.

First up on the schedule is a $500,000 PKO No Limit Hold’em event. The first of three days began on November 13 and play in the $1,050 MTT will conclude on November 15.

Buy-Ins Reduced but Value Remains High

Next up is Day 1A of the $5,300 main event. This year, Partypoker has reduced the entry fee by 50% to reflect the change of circumstances. Although live to digital converts have been popular this year, the general trend online is to offer slightly more affordable main events.

As such, the $10,300 buy-in has been cut in half and the two starting flights spaced out one week apart. These changes, in conjunction with a host of qualifiers, should see the total number of entries match or surpass the 948 collected in 2019.

On that occasion, Adrian Mateos clinched the title and $1.1 million after beating Aaron VanBlarcum heads-up. This year, the guarantee has been reduced from $10 million to $5 million.

But, based on the fact other online majors have exceeded expectations in recent months, there’s every chance the 2020 champ could win close to $1 million.

Alongside the Partypoker Caribbean Poker Party Online main event, there will be host of high buy-in and micro events. The micros start at $55 and the higher priced MTTs scale up to $25,500.

Partypoker Caribbean Poker Party Has Something for Everyone

All told, there will be 10 “main” events on offer between now and November 25, as well as a selection of mini and micro MTTs.

Although playing online won’t be the same as partying in the Caribbean, it’s better than nothing. Live poker has been ripped apart by COVID-19 restrictions, but operators have made the best of a bad situation.

However, almost all poker players will agree that live events have a certain something that digital offerings can’t match. Thus, there’s hope some level of normality resumes in 2021.

Regardless, the situation is what it is, and the show goes on. Partypoker’s John Duthie is hoping his team’s latest tournament offering strikes the right balance between prestige and accessibility. Moreover, he wants everyone to enjoy the action, despite the ongoing impact of COVID-19.
