Partypoker Creates New Currency for Tournament Lovers

Partypoker has announced the launch of a new tournament currency designed to give players more flexibility when it comes to spending their satellite prizes.

At a time when alternative cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are all the rage, Partypoker has jumped on the bandwagon in its own way by creating PPL$$$.

Otherwise known as Partypoker Live $$$, the tokens can be won via a special selection of satellites costing $5.50, $55 and $530.

$50K On Offer Each Week

The two lower priced tournaments will act as daily and weekly feeders to the $530 finals which are set to take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Across the three weekly finals, Partypoker will guarantee at least 10 prizes worth $5,000 PPL$$$ each.

Unlike traditional satellite tokens that fix players into a certain event, PPL$$$ can be used to enter a range of Partypoker tournaments, including Millions, Grand Prix and certain WSOP-sponsored festivals. Additionally, the credits can be used to purchase travel and accommodation packages as well as cover expenses while playing one of the operator’s Live events.

The decision to create a satellite currency was prompted by a common problem experienced by Partypoker Live president, John Duthie.

“We spent a lot of last year listening to players and one of the most common gripes about the online to LIVE satellite route has always been getting locked into specific events when circumstances may change,” Duthie wrote on the Partypoker blog on April 9.

Products Endorsed by the Pros

Over the last 12 months, Partypoker has worked to establish itself as the poker operator of the players. As well as recruiting European Poker Tour (EPT) founder Duthie to oversee the new Live series, experienced pros such as Isaac Haxton and Philipp Gruissem have been drafted in.

In addition to working as brand ambassadors, Haxton et al serve as advisors to Partypoker’s development team.

“Over the years he [Haxton] has also demonstrated a real commitment to principles and will play a key role in helping us meet and exceed player expectations,” Partypoker managing director Tom Waters noted in a January 2018 press release.

Over the next 12 months, Partypoker plans to give away $1 million worth of PPL$$$ to the top satellite performers. Running until April 15, 2019, the competition will rank players based on the amount of PPL$$$ they win throughout the year.

As well as prizes for the top 100 performers, the outright winner will bank $100,000 PPL$$$.
