Following the recent announcement that short deck poker (6+ Hold’em) was going live on its network (the Winning Poker Network), Americas Cardroom has created the High Five Poker Series. Although participants won’t be able to win the other green stuff, the festival as a whole does play on cannabis culture.

It’s 420 at Americas Cardroom

For reference, enthusiasts of the drug that’s now legal in 30 US states often make reference to the number 420. Initially used as the police code for marijuana smoking, 420 has since been appropriated by users and frequently adorns anything weed related.

Picking up on this, Americas Cardroom is offering a $420,000 guaranteed prizepool for the High Five main event on November 4. As a further nod to an industry predicted to be worth $31 billion by 2021, the buy-in will be $420+$30 and there will be a special break at 4:20pm ET.

Although the marijuana references are designed to generate some additional interest in the main event, the High Five series is more than a play on words. When the action gets underway on October 31, a total of 25 MTTs with buy-ins starting at $2+$0.20 will run until November 4.

Among the selection of regular Hold’em tournaments, players will also have the option to enjoy some 4-max action as well as three Omaha events.

New Trends Attract New Players

Despite having its issues with DDoS attacks in recent times, Americas Cardroom is aiming to embrace new ideas and trends whenever possible. As more governments change their attitudes towards marijuana, any company that takes joins the party is bound to generate some additional interest its products.

Beyond this willingness to get high, Americas Cardroom has become a hub for cryptocurrency transactions. Following the Bitcoin boom of 2017, the Winning Poker Network recently announced that 60 percent of its transactions are crypto-based.

“WPN processed its first Bitcoin transaction in 2015 and now accepts over 60 different cryptocurrencies for deposits and withdrawals,” Michael Harris said in the October 8 press release.

With Americas Cardroom being the most prominent site on the network, the implication is that it’s responsible for the majority of crypto payments. Between this and the recent addition of 6+ Hold’em, the site is doing everything it can to stay on trend.

For those interested in green of the non-monetary variety, this has given rise to another online poker series that will give away at least $1.5 million.
